The idea of miniskirts has been around since ancient times from both Egypt and Europe. But they seem to have faded out of existence up until the 1920’s and again in the 1960’s during Britain’s Youthquake movement and Mary Quant can be the one who can be given credit for their reappearance and who told the New York Daily News: “A miniskirt was a way of rebelling.” The Quant definition of a mini: “The bottom edge of the skirt must hit roughly halfway up the thigh, and fall no more than four inches below the butt.”
You can only imagine what a shocking sight this was for the older generation which saw girls dressed in miniskirts and showing off their legs even above the knee. A truly glorious time for both men and women, in this period of rebellion and disregard of what was previously known as standard during those times.
In order for us to catch a glimpse of that period in time, we’ll show you a series of photos from the 1960’s when girls were out and about in their “flashy” miniskirts, turning heads and provoking prude minds wherever they went. Take a look and feast your eyes on these beauties, with their legs stretching up to their necks.
