Yoga poses are something that you wouldn’t have ever thought to see Marilyn Monroe doing. Now, even though she was a sex symbol, her actual lifestyle wasn’t something often publicized. Those were different times, we suppose.

Nevertheless, in 1952, in an interview for LIFE magazine, she revealed that she often exercised and that she was doing yoga poses regularly. The practice of yoga came to America during the 1800s, but it didn’t ingrain itself into the public’s consciousness until the 1960s. One of the first yoga studios opened in LA at the end of the 1940s and over the past two decades, yoga poses grew in popularity, and as it turns out Marilyn was among the first to take yoga poses on.

In the interview, she said: “I couldn’t stand an exercise if I had to feel regimented about it.”

What we can take from here words here is that it isn’t one-exercise-fits all, so if you don’t like going to the gym, try pilates. If pilates doesn’t work for you, do some yoga poses. If it’s any help, use these photos of Marylin as inspiration. Because, as you can imagine, to become a sex-symbol, one needs to work for it, it doesn’t come just like that.
