Being witness to the awesome power of mother nature during the tsunami in Thailand and again during the Katrina disaster, Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn has designed and built several statues of Mother Nature rotating planet Earth in what looks like a chaotic dance.
Like the people of old who were dedicating entire monuments to their gods, so does Quinn believe that these statues might appease Mother Nature so she won’t unleash the full force of her wrath upon us all at once.
“After having seen the ravaged coast of Thailand and the Hurricane that affected the Southern States I decided to create a sculpture dedicated to Mother Nature,” Quinn explains on his website. “This would be reminiscent of the early statues made as peace offerings to the Gods in the hope of quenching their anger.”
Each of the roughly 2.5 meter (8.2 feet) sculptures, was placed in different parts of the world, in places like England, the United States, Monaco, and Singapore, in the hopes that our goddess will notice them.
