Women and the beauty of single life are brilliantly illustrated by artist Idalia Candelas from Mexico. The series of illustrations called “Postmodern Loneliness” portrays women doing regular day to day activities, while being single.
In today’s society, if you’re a man, being a bachelor is considered a choice, while if you are a woman, people either start judging you, or they start to pity you for not having found the right man yet.
Idalia Candelas brilliantly captures all the beauties and joys that single life has to offer, with the help of a pencil, ink and watercolor, creating graphic illustrations about single women. She got her inspiration from living alone in Mexico City and the results couldn’t have been more stunning.
“The theme of the loneliness has been recurring in my drawings,” says Idalia Candelas. “I like to show women who exist in solitude but do not suffer. They are not depressed or crying. Rather [they] are safe, exalting in the sense of enjoying the company of just herself.” she continued.
Women often fear a single life, but that’s just because the beauty of single life doesn’t appear that much in movies, books, paintings and other day to day situations. This doesn’t mean that living alone can’t be joyful. These illustrations are here to prove just that, by showing how wonderful little activities make the single life all the more enjoyable.
The next time you’re feeling sorry for yourself, just look at these illustrations and try to make the most out of the little things in life. They are the ones that will offer you the most satisfaction, whether you’re living alone, or with another person.
