Street Barber Who Gives Free Haircuts For The Homeless Gets His Own Free Barber Shop
After more than a decade-long career, Philadelphia-based street barber Brennon Jones decided to give back to the community in the best way he knew how. Without a barber shop to call his own, Jones improvised a makeshift shop on sidewalks and street corners and began giving haircuts to the homeless. With a high dose of compassion and desire to give back to the community, Jones the street barber was doing roughly 20 haircuts per day. He even travelled to known homeless hotspots like Camden, New Jersey.
One day in April 2017, Jones was approached by the name of Sean Johnson and asked him what was his plans for Haircuts For Homeless (HC4H) during the winter. Jones replied that he will most likely have to put the operation on hold until the following year. Several months later, the street barber received a phone call from Johnson, telling him to meet up at his newly refurbished barbershop. When they met, Johnson gave him the keys and said, “If you want it, it’s yours.” Completely overwhelmed and amazed, Jones took up ownership of the place and named it Phenomenon Perfection.
Jones will continue to do the good work and help the community as he’s done before, acting as the street barber for the homeless. During these, so-called, “Makeover Mondays”, his clients also receive a free meal with the haircut.
“To us, it’s just a haircut, but to them, it’s so much more. It’s a sense of self-esteem,” says Jones.
