She traveled 1,500 mi & spent $1,100 to save 100 dogs from China’s Dog-Eating Festival! We’re not exactly sure what you have to do in order to officially be considered a saint, but we’re pretty sure that Yang Xiaoyun, a 65-year-old retired Chinese teacher meets all the necessary requirements and more.
She traveled 1,500 miles (~2,400 km) and spent over 7,000 yuan (~€990 or ~$1,100) of her own money in order to go to the city of Yulin and save 100 dogs from being slaughtered and eaten. China’s Dog Eating Festival is a nightmare for all canine lovers.
Yulin is a big city from southern China, with a population of around 1 million people and you can imagine that so many hungry mouths call for a lot of dog and cat meat during the city’s annual Dog-Eating Festival.
China’s Dog-Eating Festival is absolutely horrifying for the Western civilization, being hard for many people to understand how dog meat can be considered a delicatessen. If you take in consideration what happens in Nepal, the neighboring country, where they have the Kukur Tihal Festival that honors dogs, you would be tented to say that China has a long way to go.
Yang Xiaoyun runs an animal shelter in Tianjin and she decided to take it upon herself to save as many dogs as possible with her own resources and money received from volunteer and animal lovers worldwide. She is a very active militant against this brutal and barbaric Chinese festival and she hopes that more and more people will join her efforts in putting an end to this brutal massacre of our beloved furry friends.
Most of the times, the saved dogs require medical treatment that Yulin has to pay for with her own money.
Twice per day she cooks steamed corn bread (polenta) to feed her dogs because this is all she can afford.
She never complains about the hard work and the money she spends because she love animals way too much for such things to stand in her way of making the world a better place.
She also tries to offer meaty-treats to all the doggies every weekend.
Dogs really love it when people stop by the shelter because they receive delicious-yummy treats.
She is a true saint and she deserves a statue for all her efforts!
Dogs are kept in horrible conditions before being slaughtered at the Yulin Annual Dog Eating Festival.
Besides dogs, Chinese also eat cats at the Yulin Annual Dog Eating Festival that horrified the entire world.
Animals are brutally killed before being eaten and this is why we should raise awareness about these practices and about wonderful people like Yang Xiaoyun that devote their lives to helping the voiceless.
