Realistic Mashups Of Two Unrelated Photos
Mashing up two unrelated photos doesn’t seem like much, especially if some of your friends are doing it, but take a look at this guy here, Stephen McMennamy. He takes two completely unrelated photos and then combines them in a hilarious way to create something completely new and different. One could even say that there’s some hidden meaning to his mashups, which there probably is.
His series is called #ComboPhotos, where McMennamy scours the internet for all sorts of photos that don’t seem to have anything in common until he actually puts them together. Now, even though, at first glance, they don’t seem like that big of a deal and don’t seem like too much work was put into them, McMennamy admits that the biggest challenge, and an arduous one at that, is to actually find the two perfect unrelated photos that fit together perfectly. He sais that he either makes the photos himself, or he borrows from other photographers.
In some cases, the whole process can take months or even years before the finished product is released. McMennamy gives an example here when he was talking about how he was able to create the photo of the elk with human hands for antlers.
He explains what he had to do to get the photos just right: “For quite a while now I’ve been trying to find the glass slipper of deer heads to make this shot work. Often times it came down to the perkiness of the ears, coupled with the wrong camera angle that kept this one just beyond my reach. That was until a recent trip to the Elks Lodge 725 in Kalispell, Montana, where they had a smorgasbord of antlered creatures to chose from (and a chair for me to stand on).”
