The marks of war are in one form or another known to all of us. A less known aspect of war’s effects, are the ones on soldiers. The many months and sometime years of battle, witnessing some of the worst things humans can do to each other do leave a deep scar on the soldier’s body and mind.
Fighting a war can definitely change a man, and these series of photos stands out as a statement for anybody who hasn’t experienced the dark side of a battle.
Photographer Claire Felicie shot close-up representations of the marines in the thirteenth infantry organization of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps before, during and after their deployment between 2009-2010. She then masterminded the pictures into frequenting triptychs that demonstrate the toll war has on a man’s eyes and face.
