These before and after photos of Beijing’s pollution crisis are enough to make any person realize that something needs to be done right now. Not tomorrow, not in a few months! Today! Beijing and its people are trying to raise awareness about how serious the pollution problem actually is.

Local and national authorities are pushed to take measures by many international environmental organizations, but since China is a communist country, Chinese officials couldn’t care less about what other people have to say.

One Chinese artist even collected smog from Beijing and created a brick out of it just to make a point. He proved how polluted China‘s capital actually is but authorities still didn’t make any visible changes. Beijing is going through a crisis. For the last few years, the city’s air has become as harmful as smoking 20 cigarettes per day, according to medical studies.

Imagine taking a walk in Beijing and being diagnosed with lung cancer. Sure, the comparison and the situation are exaggerated, but living in Beijing will, at one point or the other, cause you serious health problems on the long term. People living in China‘s capital have a lower life expectancy and are more often diagnosed with respiratory problems than people living in other Chinese cities.

It’s time to take action against pollution! China needs to realize that measures have to be taken now. The country and its capital need a long term project to clear all the polluted air and to prevent such a thick and toxic smog to ever form inside the city ever again. Seriously, who will come to Beijing from now on if this situation keeps getting worse?
