Paris Makes Its Rainbow Crossing Permanent As ‘Punishment’ For Homophobic Vandalism
Paris makes its rainbow crossing permanent as ‘punishment’ for homophobic vandalism and everybody appreciates this way of doing things, especially the LGBT community.
One of the rainbow pedestrian crossings painted fro Gay Pride Paris was recently vandalized and Anne Hidalgo, the city’s mayor, immediately took measures against such acts. Her response on Twitter is priceless for so many reasons, but the most important one is the fact that she lays a model on how a mayor should conduct himself.

“Paris is a city of refuge that embraces Republican values of freedom, equality and fraternity,” the city’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo, wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. “In order for these values to be recorded forever, the rainbow pedestrian crossings created for Gay Pride will be made permanent!”

One rainbow crossing from the Marais District of Paris, known for its gay bars and nightclubs, was covered with homophobic insults, such as “Dictature LGBT” (LGBT dictatorship) and “Hidalgo dégage” (Hidalgo go away) were graffitied across the crossing.
Anne Hidalgo said that vandalism “wouldn’t go unpunished”. And she stood by her word, making the rainbow crossing permanent after this homophobic act of vandalism.
