A Look Back at Manhattan in 1993 in HD Footage
Take a look back at Manhattan in 1993 in HD footage for a unique time-travelling experience, back to NYC’s golden days. This video really brings back good memories of a time when people used to walk without smartphones in their hands and headphones in their ears.
In case you didn’t know, HD filming was available way before it became the standard in television broadcasting so this is why this unique footage of Manhattan is all the more spectacular.
“In 2002 D-Theater D-VHS launched in the US—the dealers needed a demo tape of HD footage. JVC reused some HD video that had been shot as a demo for the Japanese HD market back in 1993.” the uploader wrote on Youtube.
Although this video was taken in 1993, which was not that long ago, we have to keep in mind that the year we are living in right now is 2016. Yes, 2016! That mean that this footage was shot 23 years ago! Deal with that. You are not young anymore…
We simply can’t help being overwhelmed when watching this incredible 1993 Manhattan HD footage. All the cigarette signs in Times Square, all the outdated (soon to be fashionable again) outfits and all the vintage taxis. It’s like we’re walking on the Seinfeld studio set and basically waiting to bump into Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer. Yes, this was their time!
We’ve seen how 1980’s New York looked like through a series of very fascinating photos, but we’ve never seen something like this – HD footage from almost 25 years ago! This has got to be one for the books.
What do you remember about the early ’90s in NYC? Do you have any special footage you would like to share?
