USSR in photos. It all started with a dream and a series of revolutions in 1922, but not 70 years later, it was all over. The USSR dissolved at the end of 1991, and withy good reason. This photos here will show a glimpse into the lives of the Russian people at the end of the USSR and how they were living their lives before they started their lives anew under Russia.
The fall of the Soviet Union also saw a shift in the geopolitical nature of the world, thus leaving the US the sole superpower in the world and the end of the Cold War. The Soviet Union wasn’t the only one to fall during that time period since pretty much all other nations in Eastern Europe renounced communism slightly earlier, or at about the same time.
These photos below were taken by George Steinmetz and Peter Turnley during the last year, year and a half in the USSR and as you can see, life wasn’t as easy as comfort could allow. Endless lines at the store, no food or other goods; you name it.
In any case, an image says a thousand words, so we could go on and on about the Soviet Union and the hardships of its people, but in the end, these photos here will paint you a far more accurate picture than we can. In any case, take a look and please leave us your opinion in the comment section below.
