“Knife Angel” Is An Anti-Violence Monument Made Of 100,000 Knives
The “Knife Angel” is an anti-violence monument made of 100,000 knives and it’s meant to raise awareness against on one of society’s oldest and most pressing problems: VIOLENCE.
The entire artwork was created from knives that were confiscated by the police, and what better way to re-purpose these objects than by creating an everlasting monument against bad behavior.
Usually, confiscated knives are melted down, but British sculptor Alfie Bradley asked the police for over 100,000 of they’re knives in order to build this anti-violence monument, called the “Knife Angel”.
He managed to raise these knives through the “Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife” campaign which had bins placed all over the UK. In the UK, carrying a knife is illegal so this also had the purpose of making people to willingly give up their weapons.
After cleaning and blunting all the knives, the “Knife Angel” was born and now stands 27 feet high up. Be sure to visit it, or take a look at Alfie Bradley’s Instagram account for more exciting artworks.
