The Jaipur Elephant Festival Shows India’s Love For These Majestic Creatures
The Jaipur Elephant Festival shows India‘s love for elephants in one spectacular annual event. Jaipur is a large city located in Rajasthan where the annual elephant festival takes place, where people from all over India and surrounding countries gather to honor elephants.
India‘s love for these majestic creatures goes back to ancient times. Elephants were used to carry around heavy loads and to take people from one place to another. Most elephants in India are still used to help around the household, but not as much as in the past. Today, most elephants are used in touristic purposes. They carry tourists around to see the local villages and they wait peacefully while everybody takes photos of and with them.
During the annual Japur Elephant Festival, all that is forgotten. This is the time and place where elephants are honored. People show their love and appreciation for these beautiful creatures that live in perfect harmony with man.
They are painted and decorated by their masters in various colors, golden cloths and different traditional ornaments. The more, the merrier. Elephants are celebrated as a vital part of Indian culture and during the festival they get nothing but love, admiration and respect.
French photographer Charles Fréger traveled to India to witness this amazing festival and managed to create an outstanding pictorial featuring proud Indian men posing with their beautifully decorated elephants.
