This is how Iranian women dressed in the 1970s before the Islamic Revolution that took place in 1979, when Iran became the Islamic Republic of Iran. Contrary to popular belief, Iranians are not Arabs. They are Persian descendants and this is why Iranians always had a unique and exquisite sense for fashion.
Before the Islamic Revolution in Iran, people in Tehran, the country’s capital, and in other major cities, had a very diverse life and a very fruitful nightlife. Women dressed up however they wanted, without having to cover their entire body, as the Sharia law dictates. Now, they are not even allowed to sing.
Iranian women were able to show some skin, they could even ‘wear’ a provocative cleavage and they were the only ones mastering their fashion choices. Unfortunately, today’s Iran is a completely different country than what it used to be in the 1970’s, and these old magazine covers show us how beautiful and diverse women’s fashion was back then.
