This homeless widower from Florida just became the latest online star after being filmed by Aurore Henry, a woman that was randomly passing by when she heard the amazing way Donald Gould could play the piano.
Donald Gould from Sarasota plays the piano on the streets everyday in order to gather a few coins for food.
The 51-year-old homeless widower served in the US Marine Corps where he also played the clarinet and traveled the world with his symphonic band. After finishing the Army, he signed up to study music at the Spring Arbor University, where he wanted to become a teacher.
Struggling to pay his tuition fees, he eventually abandoned school, although his talent allows him to “play almost every instrument, from the piccolo to the tuba”.
In 1998, his wife, with whom he had a son, died and he started being depressed and lost the custody of his child as a result of substance abuse. He has been homeless for seven years now: “I sleep under the stars every night, unless it’s raining,” Gould says..
After he found out that the video of him playing the piano went viral online, he was stunned: “I was thinking I could just put my hat on the piano and make a couple dollars and get tips,” he explained. “I didn’t expect it to jump out to this.”
A local bar in Sarasota, Florida, offered him a trial job as a pianist and a funding page has been set up in order to help Donald Gould to complete his music degree.
