What Happens With Olympic Stadiums After The Games
What happens with Olympic stadiums after The Games? Well, this is a question not enough people ask themselves before organizing the Olympics. It’s true and sad at the same time. While the Olympic Games offer a huge infrastructural improvement to every city that organizes this event, most national and local authorities don’t know how to take advantage of the situation.
The Olympic Games host a large variety of summer and winter sports once every other 4 years. During the Games, the organizing city comes to life with thousands of athletes and international delegations, not to mention the tens of thousands of tourists that come to support their countries.
All this brings in a lot of media attention, publicity and money. But what happens after the Olympics are over? This is where the sad part begins. In most cases, entire Olympic venues lie abandoned after the Games have finished. Stadiums, gyms, hotels and sometimes entire neighborhoods turn into deserted urban enclaves.
Before deciding to host the Olympic Games, authorities should also focus on a long-term strategy for future events and activities that should take place in the newly built top notch venues.
It’s sad to see that even some Olympic venues from 8 years ago, from Beijing, now lie in complete ruins. It really doesn’t take a long time for people to forget the Olympic Games after their city has finished hosting them.
