A Greek architect and designer by the name of Katerina Kamprani has created some mundane, everyday objects, but which are completely useless. I mean just look at them! They are utterly backwards and counter intuitive. Well, that’s the whole point, given the fact that the collection is called: The uncomfortable project.
Instead of improving on them and making them more feasible for our everyday needs, miss Katerina has done the exact opposite. By doing this, she draws the attention to just how important and well designed things are already. Looking at these useless objects, we truly realize just how simple and important their functionality is.
By making us feel uncomfortable by looking at them, we come to realize just how important these everyday objects are to us. Even if we don’t usually give them a second thought, this collection helps us see beauty in everything around us.
The style in which these seemingly useless objects are distorted and modified actually put into focus the true functionality of each one. Miss Katerina Kamprani analyzed each object in part, took it’s functionality and turned it on its head, thus drawing our attention to it and making us feel just a bit uncomfortable in the process, not knowing how to react in the face of them.
You can’t help but put a smile on your face when imagining yourself using them in your everyday life. Just imagine giving one to your friends as a gift and acting all serious about it. How would they react? Funny, right? It would also be hilarious if you were to fill an entire house with all sorts of these completely useless objects and invite some people to live there for a weekend. Just imagine how those people would feel.
Nevertheless, we shouldn’t completely loose focus on what the intended purpose of these objects is and we should give more, let’s say’ praise to their functionality.
