Geoengineering Earth Could Be Our Only Chance At This Point
Geoengineering could be the future. We’ve known about the fact that our activities over the past century and a half have had a tremendous impact on the planet’s climate. In fact, scientists have been warning us about the dangerous nature of our energy production at least as far back as the 1970’s. But as it usually in our nature, we tend to disregard things that are not happening right now. Wishful thinking, as some people call it.
Anyway, we are now in 2017 and things are really starting to present itself. This year has been the third warmest on record, after the past two years, and it just started. The North Pole is experiencing record high temperatures, arctic and antarctic are at an all-time low, and Australia was literally burning up. What’s more, it is predicted that coastal cities in the US, particularly in the mid-coast regions are going to be flooded by as many as 3 floods per week. This means that if you buy a house there today, you won’t even finish paying your mortgage on it before it will be flooded several times a month.
Anyway, it seems that reversing the effects will be a harder undertaking than previously believed, and just cutting down on greenhouse gases will not cut it. It is an incremental part of ensuring our survival, but we will need to do more than that. This is why some scientists are thinking about geoengineering the Earth. So, with this idea in mind, the guys at Futurism have made this awesome infographic, pointing out some of the problems we face, what’s to be done, and how geoengineering Earth could help us alleviate and reverse these climate changes.
