Let’s face it, people! We’re all tired of people littering and creating garbage chaos in our beloved cities and this is why we need organizations like UK based Hubbub, that came up with the most efficient ideas to stop littering.
In Hong Kong, DNA is collected from litter to publicly shame the culprits with posters of their face and the results are absolutely surprising. However, in a European country, especially the UK, public shaming doesn’t work that well, considering the huge flux of people moving around.
In Portugal, one artist took it upon himself to come up with genius and efficient ideas to stop littering and decided to transform trash into incredible street art.
Back to the UK, Hubbub is planning on cleaning up the streets of London with a very suggestive campaign, called #neatstreets, where people are encourage to participate in different surveys by expressing their opinion with the use of litter, rubbish, garbage, trash and so on. Call it what you want to call it, it works!
Cigarette butts and chewing gum are the pieces of garbage that cause the most damage and this is why the campaign had to come up with these genius and efficient ideas to stop littering, based on those two “special” ingredients.
“Our public polling discovered that a staggering 86 per cent of people think littering is a disgusting habit yet only 15 per cent of us would actually confront someone and tell them that,” says the organization website. “This is why from May to October we’re trialing a new approach to tackling littering on Villiers Street, Westminster, using the latest thinking on behavior change and awareness raising from around the world.”
