Girl Called ‘Fat Whale’ Starts Raising Money To Save The Whales
Girl called ‘Fat Whale’ starts raising money to save the whales and this type of response to bullying is exactly what the world needed. Dannie McMillan, 16, from Lampasas, TX, US, refused to be a victim of bullying at Lampasas High School and started raising money to save the whales.
At one moment, Dannie aka Dee was in study hall when she was texted the Twitter account created by another student that called her ‘fat whale’. The account had an image of a whale superimposed over her face.
“The moment I got out of that classroom, I just started crying,” Dannie said. “I was just really upset. I think I got angry after a little bit. But, at first I was just so embarrassed.”
Later, Dannie exchanged a few Facebook messages with the famous plus-size model Laura Lee, who she really admires: “I jokingly told her: part of me wants to cry all day. And, the other part of me wants to get a t-shirt with a whale on it and wear it to school to show that they can’t get to me,” Dannie explained. “And, she was like ‘oh, we should.’”
Laura Lee supported Dannie in using Booster, a custom t-shirt design website, and created the campaign ‘Dee the Fat Whale Saves the Whales.’ All t-shirt purchases will go directly to the California-based nonprofit Save the Whales organization. Up until now, Dee managed to raise almost $8,000 on her GoFundMe page. You can also contribute to this amazing Save The Whales campaign here and here.
“I just want her to be happy and successful in what she does and be proud of what she does,” Dannie’s father Trey McMillan told KCEN. The Twitter account mocking Dannie has been removed since the campaign started.
