Early Highlights of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards
Until January 10th, 2017, the Sony World Photography Awards are accepting new entries into the professional category. The photos here are just a glimpse of what they already have, and what’s in store for the tenth anniversary of the competition. Last year there were a whopping 230,103 photography entries in the competition. In total, there are four sections —Professional, Open, Youth, and Student— allowing for a wide range of photographers to express and expose their talents to the international photography community.
The curator chairing the Professional section of the competition, Zelda Cheatle had this to say about the entries: “I will be looking for originality of thought and execution, clarity of vision—a clear concept that translates well into pictures on the wall or on the screen. Simplicity, good craftsmanship and sometimes its wit, or compassion, ingenuity, luck or good judgement—but a good picture always stops you in your tracks.”
The awards ceremony will be taking place in London on April 20, 2017. The winners will be announced then, and their works will be exhibited, along with the shortlisted ones at the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House in London from April 21 through May 7, 2017. We wish all the contenders the best of luck and inspiration, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they were able to capture.
