Dubai just built the world’s largest picture frame with a stolen design. While this architectural gem is one amazing sight to see, the announcement of the inauguration of the world’s largest picture frame was tainted with the news of its stolen design.

Dubai is just one of those cities everybody should visit at least once in their life, and then revisit it again every other 3-5 years because its skyline is constantly changing. Amazing architectural marvels pop up like out of nowhere in the heart of the United Arab Emirates, and this picture frame is one of them.

The Dubai Frame is already one of the hottest tourist attractions and a selfie station for all those Instagrammers out there. The story behind it however is not that well known. It is said that the city of Dubai stole the design from a competition held back in 1998. Out of 900 submitted proposals, the city chose the Frame, designed by architect Fernando Donis.

Fernando Donis decided that the contract he received from the city of Dubai was too controlling and he refused signing it. After one year, the Dubai Frame was already in construction, despite not paying Fernando Donis for the design.

The world’s largest picture frame is located next to Zabeel Park and rises 150 m (192 feet) into the air, being designed to offer views of both Old Dubai and New Dubai, through the same frame.

#dubaiframe #dubai #fernandodonis #architecture
