Let’s face it, book aren’t what the’re used to. People nowadays read less and less books as they become more used to the internet and devices such as Kindle or what have you. So, multidisciplinary artist by the name of Guy Laramee who has worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer, has created this new purpose for books becoming landscapes.
“So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS. Fogs and clouds erase everything we know, everything we think we are.” – Guy Laramee
His carved book collection depict all sorts of serene mountainous landscapes, monuments and temples inspired in most part by ancient Buddhist and Taoist designs.
