Here’s one amazing underwater wedding from 1954 – Vintage cool, that’s what it’s all about.
If you were imagining the 50’s as a decade where almost everybody wanted to have their small little house in the suburbs and live the American dream, where the man would bring home the bacon, while women were stay-at-home wives, taking care of the kids and doing all the cleaning, then you couldn’t have been more wrong.
The 50’s were a time of continuous change, similar to how technology and the world is moving today, but at a slower pace. People started experimenting with new technologies, flights became cheaper and more and more people started traveling by plane.
This decade was filled with post-war joy (although the war in Korea wasn’t that much fun) and Americans decided to let their imagination run freely. The results are all that and this amazing underwater wedding from 1954 will put all your wedding photos to shame.
Bob Smith, the groom, was a diving clown and Mary Beth Sanger, the bride, was a synchronized swimmer, so you can imagine that they had a lot of underwater experience. You could say that it wasn’t their first time at the pool.
Before stepping into the water, the couple had weights strapped on them to make the dive more efficient and everything was weighed to measure the exacts requirements of standing underwater while saying ‘I DO’.
Given their professional careers, it was only natural for them to get underwater and to declare their eternal love to one another.
How will she throw the bouquet?
