An Entire Abandoned Village From New Zealand Is Up For Sale

Lake Waitaki is a completely abandoned village in New Zealand and guess what? It’s entirely up for sale for anybody who can afford it, of course. If your dream was to live amongst the hobbits of Down Under, it really doesn’t get any closer to fruition than this.
Lake Waitiki Village is located on the South Island at around 112 miles (180 km) north of Dunedin, the biggest town in the surrounding area. The entire village is up for sale for (just, if we may add) $2.8 million, so it kind of sounds like a good deal.
The village used to be inhabited until the late 1980’s, but all the people left when automatic machines took their jobs. The village was built in the 1930’s for people working at the nearby dam, but for almost thirty years no one has called this placed home.

Let’s say you do have the almost $3 million (you could probably get the price down to $2.5 million, just between you and I), there’s still one more trick. In 2018, New Zealand passed a law making it impossible for non-citizens to buy land on the island.
So there will be a few legal hurdles, however, it’s been proven before that billionaires will receive a New Zealander passport if they invest just the right amount of money into the country.
