Forgotten Girl Bands From The 70s & 80s That Never Quite Made It
These forgotten girl bands from the 70s & 80s never achieved the international fame they desired when first starting out. In decades where music bands were popping out like mushrooms after the rain, this fruitful list of female bands were always plan b, or plan C when it came to party options.
The Slits, L-7, The Bangles, Fanny, The Go-Gos and many other, are probably names you’ve heard about before, but don’t remember exactly when or why. This is the case for all these bands created just for the trend of having female ‘musicians‘ in a world dominated by the male rock bands of the time.
During the 1970’s and 1980’s, one hit song could trigger you directly into the hearts of millions and it would have definitely nailed you a top shelf position in every record store across the US and even worldwide. People were even more into music back then because you didn’t have so many distractions like you have now.
Music was literally the reason to hang out with friends. Teenagers used to gather at someone’s house just to listen to records, drink and smoke pot. It’s not like this is not happening today, but the impact it had back then was at a totally different level.
Listening to records was the only way you could get in touch with your favorite artists, especially if they didn’t come to play in your hometown. You had no Internet and the only way of knowing what was hot and heavy was to go to a friend’s house and check out his records, or beg the record store guy to let you borrow some new music for home.
Either way, it’s safe to say that nobody ever bothered to make an effort to listen to these records. Except people who were related to the artists featured on the album covers above and below. What about you? Do you remember any of these girl band names that vanished from history?
